Lake Park High School won State Championships in this year’s annual Rube Goldberg competition.

Rube, a club at Lake Park where students get together to create a complex machine that completes a simple task, were qualified to compete in State this past February.

After 1.5 months of planning and over 5 months of building, the club successfully pulled off their task of pouring a bowl of cereal with their extravagant “Pirates at Sea” machine.

Aayush Patel, a junior at Lake Park and also strong member of the club, describes the process of construction.

“There were many struggles while planning and building the machine itself, but we surpassed them through teamwork and dedication.”

Many thoughts were running through the minds of the teammates throughout the whole event.

“I was very nervous, but also very confident, because we drew a lot of ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ while presenting our machine. I had a great time,” said Patel.

Overall, the whole experience of this year’s competition was very fun, as mentioned by many members that have participated.

“It was exhilarating because I was able to help present the machine in a creative way with my teammates,” said Patel.
